I have extremely dry lips. I am one of those people whose lipstick would not stay even with a long-lasting-8-hour lipstick. They say lipstick would stay longer if its matte. But you see as I mentioned earlier, I have dry lips.My lips would peel & crack if it goes without a tinge of lip balm for a mere 5 minutes. No, not even long-staying moisturising lipstick. Trust me I tried them all(almost). I still need the good old lip-balm. I remembered breaking up in cold sweat on several occasions when I realised that I had left my lip balm at home - even if its only a 2-hr outing. That explains the numerous brands that I currently own now, some duplicates, as I have to get one when I forgot to bring one along. Another reason is to constantly try & test which one would really serve and heal my super-dry lips the best. I discovered that a $2 lip balm would work just as well as a $7 lip balm when constantly applied every 2 hours rather than applying the more expensive one every 5 hrs. To avoid another major dry-lips crisis, I have strategically placed back-up lip balms at the places I spend the most time at, home(makeup drawer), home(bedside drawer), make-up pouch(but of course), office & car. .
A couple of days ago I decided to invest in a more extravagant splurge. I bought a Kiehl's lip balm. I've been wanting to get it forever since I read the raving review in INStyle magazine ages ago. So glad it came to Singapore. After a few hours of applying, I can feel the difference. It could be the placebo effect, u know how you believe & feel that its better as in your mind you think it will work better? But so far I've got no complaints. My lips are better-moistured even after lunch. I do not have to constantly apply lip balm every other hour. But i think my $1.95 Vaseline would work just as well too, since its already a habit of mine to apply them every other hour- old habits die hard I tell you. At the end of the day, its the better moistured-lips minus the dry & cracks that counts the most.
