I was flipping thru this week's 8 days issue and came across something so familiar. Its actually my design work. The logo and packaging for Lina Skincare Line was done last year. So, felt pretty happy and contented. I mean how many times do you get your work featured in local mag right? even though no mention of your name whatsoever. It's actually an article about the shops at Robertson Quay and Lina's Shop is coincidentally also there. Once in a while it sure is a proud moment...

Amirul participated in his 2nd Fancy Dress competition yesterday. It was organised by Al-Falah Mosque in conjunction with Israk Mikraj and was held at Clementi Stadium. Though he did not emerge the winner, it was a big triumph all the same for him as he has improved his confidence tremendously and more outspoken unlike his first-time. It was sweltering hot yesterday and I was just amazed at how the kids can stand all smiley obedient in the heat sashaying in their costumes without any complaints. There were 20 contestants in all. There were plenty of 'Arab Sheikhs' and mini Princesses but the top spots were ruled by 2 kings, A Malay Sultan and A Javanese King. But Amirul was happy as all of the kids got 2 presents each for their participation and he had fun with his friends.

On Thursday night, the whole family(hubby side) and his posse headed to the airport for a warm-sending off to my dear sis-in-law who will be in Adelaide for 6 mths to be with her husband who is studying there. Amirul & Mira was quite affected as they just sat by her side all day long as if knowing that their auntie will not be around for awhile which means no more weekend baking & cooking for 6 mths.He did manage to bake 1 last strawberry cake for keeps before her departure.
Last night we had our late night tete-a-tete at our beloved sarbat - the first in more than 3 mths - with our posse mamu & mami. Miraculously, my hubby's asthma have somewhat improved astonishingly after that. I'm telling you we are back in business..teh-tarik anyone

I do not think I have enemies- not that I know of at least. People who dislike me, maybe, but enemies, I hardly think so. So it was just mind-boggling for me when I got a few prank calls for the past few days-from the same one person. I don't know if the caller knows I have caller ID as I can see her number very clearly. She would call me up and kept quite & wait for 5 seconds then hung-up. And she always call me at about 12 - 2 pm. The last time I had a prank call was when I was in secondary school where you would have a stupid stranger calling you up, claiming they got my number from someone and attempt to do a' can-I-get-to-know-you' drill- which is oh so lame. I tried calling back a few times initialy thinking that maybe someone was genuinely trying to reach me. But I think she immediately swtiched off her HP and left me aghast-so rude. So today, since my boss have a private number, I called the stupid number back. The conversation goes something like this;
ring tone
prankster:(lady- totally unexpected as she picked up the call after just 2 rings)
me: *deafening* silence
prankster: breathes in
me:*deafening* silence (now you know how it feels)
prankster: (in a shivery soft voice)..oh my god.....(immediately hung-up)
me: smile contentedly.

I really don't know what to make of it. My husband insisted that its probably a very jealous lesbian secret admirer/lover..(duh!!)
I am still trying to recall who I might have offended in the past few years, that as a result, is coming back to haunt me now. As a happy freelancer, I am devoid of back-stabbing jealous work colleagues. I do not think I have vicious relatives that would go to that extent. Anyway...a little something to add spice to my daily grind. Mind bogglling but fascinating. Hey I have to always see the good side of things...think happy thoughts...

41 yrs ago, a wedding made the news. It earned a spot in the local newspaper. Yes the wedding of that of my parents. I thought 'Waaah my parents must be damn famous to get advertised in the newspaper like that...' but apparently it was not that unusual during that time. Yes, my parents have been married for a happy 41 years - same as that of Singapore's independance. Blessed with 4 wonderful children consisting of my elder sis, my older bro, me and my small mei-mei(not so small now). I think they feel very pleased at how all have turned out. They still look & sound like they are still in love - although they have a funny way of showing it sometimes. But one thing I am sure of is that one will definitely cannot live without the other. That is one thing I really admire about them. Amidst their little tit-for-tat, jokes & wise cracks, there is an underlying affection that one cannot fail to notice.
So we had an anniversary dinner for them down at Siam Kitchen, food was nice and HOT (VERY HOT!) all was chatty and in lighthearted mood - extended family included.

Oooh..wedding bells will soon be heard in our family soon (well, engagement first to start the ball rolling). My dear cousin will finally be engaged in a couple of weeks. We are all so excited for it has been a looong time since we had a wedding celebration in the family. Yes, yes about time we dust our lace & songkets to prepare for the big-day. Its been quite awhile since we get to dress-up for a special occasion - apart from Hari Raya. SO we are so looking forward to the day - nevermind that it will be a 2-yr engagement, because at the end of it THERE WILL BE WEDDING!!

In our times of computer-games, playstations and DVD, I am so eternally greatful that some things of yesteryears still remain the same. It is something that I can proud to say I have in common with my kids and hopefully with my grandkids in the future - it is the coin-operated mechanical rides. The novelty still remains and and thank god the price have remain the same too-still a mere 20c for a 2-min ride to keep kids happy and hassle free. Amira even have a coin pouch dedicated to the daily horse-ride trips which she calls it 'duit-kuda'(no relation whatsoever to Turf Club) courtesy of her Tok Teh. Even Amirul finds endless joy on those rides. I hope the rides will be there to stay and not get 'over-rided' by our modern computer-robotic games.
Last Monday Amirul finally got his confirmation letter for his primary school admission. Apparently, the letter mailed to us got lost somewhere in the mail (how can right??) But at least things are settled now, we just have our room to renovate next and get into the next wave of momentum of things.(I think I sound like Ja here)

I have not been up to update my blog lately. Not because not much happening, its just one of those moments. For the past 10 days was a flurry of activities, beginning with the registration of Amirul's School. We dropped by Henry Park to check out the response. Initially we thought we could stand a chance as the carpark was invisibly quite-meaning not much have applied- but alas since we fall into the 1-2 km category and our chances of getting in is as good as Joachim being voted out, decided to try our luck elsewhere. We heard good reviews about the school so tra-la-la off we went to Clementi Primary Sch feeling oh-so-confident as we are within 1 km of the school. But up til today, there have been no response at all. Are we up for balloting? But I checked and they said if we are within 1 km, we would be automatically registered. One of our neighbours have got their letter and she is even staying at her granny's house. So how? me kan-cheong lah...Everyday I will bug my husband about the reply letter (not that he knowlah kan)... so I continue to wait for some sort of reply
Apart from that, its been kenduri, kenduri and more kenduri that we attended. Starting with my aunt over in Woodlands. Its her 2nd child-a boy. The amazing story about her was that she did not even know she was expecting til she was 5 mths pregnant - reason being she always had regular periods so she din't think much about it when it did not came-a-knocking after a few mths. So she just ate per normal, including her favourite kacang-pool, then when her son is born, he's allergic to nuts-all kinds of nuts-FOR LIFE. If so much as to taste a bit, he'll get jaundice - thats what the dr say at least. I know my aunt would not want to risk that. But the boy will miss on ice-kacang, satay, mee rebus, tahu telur and god knows so much food...
Then a few days ago, our good buddy had lil' Aiman's day of cukur - not that he have much to cukur now :) so me and my husband 'folded our sleeves' and rewang. it was nice and fulfilling knowing that the whole event went smoothly. Also thankful as always that our kids are well taken care off by my auntie.
Looking forward to a more relaxing days ahead..but hey I got another kenduri tomorrow!!
